Basics of Electroencephalography to assess Depth of Anaesthesia in Veterinary Medicine.
Overview:
The course provides an overview on the electroencephalographic (EEG) signal, its recording techniques, its derived parameters used to assess depth of anaesthesia (DoA), and their applications.
Designed for veterinary anaesthesia residents, it is open to anybody who wants to know more or refresh EEG comprehension. The course will enhance your understanding of EEG and its potential in assessing DoA.

- Introduction to physiology of the EEG and its recording (40 minutes, T. Parmentier)
- Review of the parameters used to assess DoA in animals with focus on EEG-derived variables
- Part 1, definitions (40 minutes, O. Levionnois)
- Part 2, use and evidence (40 minutes, A. Mirra)
- State of the art in human clinical anaesthesia (40 minutes, F. Lersch)
- Round table (questions/answers) with scientists experienced in EEG assessment (45-60 minutes, speakers and U. Auer, D. Casoni, A. Haga, D. Hight, F. Pohlin, D. Sakai)
